[Wood River, IL – July 25, 2025] – East Alton-Wood River High School (EAWR) has once again been recognized nationally for the outstanding condition and care of its football field, receiving the 2024 Pioneer® Athletics Fields of Excellence Award. This marks the second consecutive year EAWR has earned this prestigious honor, having also been selected in 2023.
The Fields of Excellence Award, presented annually by Pioneer® Athletics, honors exceptional athletic field maintenance and celebrates schools whose facilities demonstrate safety, playability, and aesthetic quality. EAWR's football field was selected from hundreds of applicants across the country.
This back-to-back recognition reflects the dedicated work of Head of Buildings and Grounds Mike Moxey and his crew, whose hands-on commitment has transformed the field into one of the region’s top high school playing surfaces. Their meticulous care and attention to detail ensure that student-athletes and the community have a safe, professional-quality environment to enjoy.
As a winner, EAWR has received a nationally recognized Fields of Excellence banner and will be featured in Pioneer® Athletics’ publications and outreach.
