East Alton-Wood River High School Announces Memorial Gymnasium Entrance and Lobby Renovation

Project to Combine Tradition and Technology for an Unmatched Fan Experience

WOOD RIVER, IL – East Alton-Wood River High School (EAWR) is excited to announce a major renovation to the entrance and lobby of its historic Memorial Gymnasium, a facility that has served the school community since its opening in 1949.

Known for its unique two-deck design and stage-end layout, Memorial Gym has long been a centerpiece of Oilers athletics and school spirit. While the gymnasium itself has hosted generations of students, fans, and championship moments, the entry and lobby areas have remained largely unchanged—until now.

Construction on the renovation is already underway, with project completion scheduled for August 14, 2025, just in time for the start of the 2025–2026 school year and athletic season.

Key Enhancements Include:

  • Restored Entryway and Central Ticket Booth – Fans will once again purchase tickets through the original ticket booth, bringing back a cherished tradition.

  • New Concession Area – A designated space for concessions will allow for efficient service and improved flow on game days.

  • Interactive History Walls – Two 65-inch touchscreen displays, powered by RocketAlumniSolutions.com, will provide an immersive and engaging look at Oilers athletic history—highlighting hall of famers, historic teams, and key moments.

  • Enhanced Visual Environment – The updated space will include modern lighting, new ceilings and floors, high-impact wall graphics, and illuminated signage and logos, both past and present, to create an immersive and energetic fan entry experience.

  • Gym Floor Repaint – The gym floor itself will receive a redesign, with work beginning in late June and expected to be completed in approximately two weeks. The new court design will debut for the FY26 athletic season.

This transformation reflects EAWR’s commitment to honoring its rich history while embracing innovation that elevates the experience for students, alumni, and the wider community.

The renovation is designed to create a space that reflects who EAWR is as a school community—honoring its legacy, celebrating its present, and investing in its future—while delivering a modern, fan-focused environment that showcases Oiler pride.
