Parent Letter: Opt-out - Assembly

Dear Parents:

In the interests of student health and keeping our parents informed about educational opportunities at EAWR,  I am writing this letter to inform you that the Peer Leadership group (consisting of student leaders) will be conducting an all-school assembly on one of the most insidious health hazards facing our community: alcohol abuse.  This presentation will be held on Thursday, April 26, 2018.

Leading the presentation will be Lisa Pruett, a member of the Madison County chapter of Mothers Against Drunk Driving.  The presentation is designed to be engaging and thought-provoking with our students, because we share your concerns about alcohol and substance abuse.  While there might be some disturbing information and sobering images that may be shown to your son or daughter, please be assured that EAWR is hosting this event out of concern over your child’s health and safety, especially over Prom weekend, which will be the weekend immediately following the presentation.  We believe that the images and discussion topics will not necessarily be any more disturbing or graphic than any other drunk-driving or anti-drug presentations given at EAWR.

However, due to the emotional nature of substance abuse, we realize that we may have some parents who may not wish their son or daughter to attend this assembly.  Therefore, we have created an “opt-out” form. If you’re all right with your son or daughter attending this anti-alcohol presentation, you need do nothing.  They will attend with their classmates.

However, if you do NOT wish to have him/her attend the presentation, please print out and sign the “opt-out” form below, and have it returned to the Main Office by Wednesday, April 25, 2016, 3:30 p.m. If you do not have access to a printer, we will have hard copies of this form available in the Main Office.

Thanks, as always, for your support of EAWR and your child’s education!

Dr. John Pearson
