Alumni Mailing

If you received a mailing that announces the cash raffle, we can also tell you that tickets may also be purchased at The Bank of Edwardsville - Wood River office; 1st Cloverleaf Bank - Wood River branch; and Shell Credit Union - Wood River Branch, through March 6th, which is the date of the drawing. Of course, you can pick them up at the high school and buy at our remaining home basketball games.

HOWEVER WE WERE JUST INFORMED BY PAYPAL (SINCE THE MAILING WENT OUT) THAT WE MAY NOT SELL ANY MORE CASH RAFFLE TICKETS VIA THEIR LINK.

The good news is that you can still give a regular donation to the EAWR Foundation through PayPal - just not purchase raffle tickets. We're sorry for any inconvenience. Those of you who have already purchased these on-line are o.k. - your ticket purchases are recorded.

Remember, your $20 Cash Raffle buys a chance to win .... 1st Prize: $4,000; 2nd Prize: $2,000; Four 3rd Prizes of $500; Eight 4th Prizes of $250 (Prizes will be proportionally reduced if 1,000 tickets are not sold). Tickets will be sold until the time of the drawing, which will be at the basketball game on March 6, 2015.

Keeping that Oiler Spirit Alive!

EAWR High School has played a key part of the lives and memories of many thousands of its graduates, parents, and community members for over 90 years! As we have learned from all of the inducted Hall of Fame members and the other nominees, as well as our loyal alumni, thousands of our graduates have gone on to successful and productive lives and careers, with many giving back their time and effort, assisting the high school over these many years. With declining state resources and growing needs of our boys and girls - with many whose family income is below the poverty line - our beloved alma mater is facing bold challenges to provide resources to our students and teachers. This is the purpose of the EAWR Foundation. The Board of Education - in partnership with local citizens and community leaders - formed the Foundation to meet these bold challenges. No contribution is too small, and all are greatly appreciated. To make a contribution, you may click on the Donate Using PayPal link below, or complete the rear panel of the Foundation brochure.  Thank you very much.

Brick Display Expansion

posted Jul 10, 2014, 12:14 PM by Oiler Domain   [ updated Feb 12, 2015, 8:17 AM by John Pearson ]

Last summer, retired EAWR Principal Bob Kasten completed the "east-west" section of the Oiler Commemorative Brick Display and planted some additional beautiful flowering plants in the circle. For the time being the new section contains newer brick orders from our patrons. The Foundation and the Board of Education thank Mr. Kasten for his tireless efforts on behalf of the exterior appearance of the school and our Display! Click on "Read more" for some photos of the new sections as well as the updated Display, itself. See the form on this Web page if you are interested in purchasing a brick

Brick Display and Flagpole Dedication

posted Jul 10, 2014, 10:57 AM by Oiler Domain

On Saturday morning, Oct. 12, 2013, about forty people gathered to formally dedicate the new flagpole and commemorative brick display at the entrance to Memorial Gymnasium. The brick display was made possible by over 75 donors on behalf of the EAWR Foundation, and was constructed and is maintained by retired Principal, Bob Kasten, along with our Maintenance Director, Jeff Foxall and our Maintenance crew. Proceeds from the brick sales are going to the purchase of the new stage curtain for the Auditorium and a new drum line for the band. Supt. Pearson acknowledged the recent large contributions from 1st Cloverleaf Bank and the Bank of Edwardsville of a combined $3,500, which made both purchases possible. Engineering this latest set of donations was local attorney, Merle Bassett, who is a board member of the Foundation and an Alumni Hall of Fame inductee.

The Oiler Pride Band, led by Chris Alexander, played the National Anthem, with the superintendent playing the Call to the Colors for the flag-raising. In attendance were Dr. Bob Daiber, Regional Superintendent; Nick Aguinaga, Becky Leggett, Mark St. Peters, and Lonnie McCoy of the school board; Foundation Board members Leigh Robinson, Bob Kasten, Susan Broadway, John Pearson, Henry Studnicki, and Jean Bruce; District administrators Kevin Gockel and JeffFoxall; members of the Class of 1969 (who are donating a special bench for the display); and many brick donors and othr guests. Thanks to Mr. Gockel's son, Chase, for assisting Mr. Foxall in the flag raising and in handing out programs.

If you would like to purchase a commemorative brick, please contact the Main Office and ask for Carla (Extension 2501).

Thanks to Mae Kasten and Mrs. Robinson for the pictures!

EAWR Foundation to Sponsor Commemorative Brick Campaign!

posted Jul 10, 2014, 10:49 AM by Oiler Domain

The EAWR Foundation, a not-for-profit 501(c)(3) corporation licensed in the state of Illinois, has launched a campaign, which will not only raise funds that will go directly to the needs of East Alton - Wood River High School students, but will provide alumni, staff, parents, and friends of EAWR to leave a lasting memorial of or dedication to their families, loved ones, or other honorees. Also, local businesses may wish to use this opportunity to promote their business and show their support for EAWR at the same time.

EAWR is selling commemorative bricks which will be prominently displayed at the Main entrance to the Memorial Gymnasium. Ordering is available right now, by downloading the order form, which can be found as a separate .pdf in the Documents section under Athletics and Activities folder. Also, ordering can be done over the phone, by placing your order at 254-3151, Ext. 502. Instructions from the Order Form are reprinted below, as well.
